DG Judy Young
DG Judy Young joined Lions as a Charter Member of the Poland Lion Club in 1994. Having been involved with serving others throughout her life, it seemed like a good fit. She was a girl scout leader for her daughter and served as Senior Scout Advisor to the Senior Planning Board of Lake to River GS Council. Judy has been active in various roles within her church, serving on its Parish Council, assisted with youth group activities, presently sings in the choir and is a member of the bell choir.
Since joining Lion Judy has served as Poland’s charter club treasurer, club president three terms, board of directors and is currently the clubs membership chair. She has served as chairman for various club projects over the years. At the district level, Lion Judy served as Family & Women’s Membership Chair 2007-2013, Zone Chairman in District D Zone 5 from 2012-2016 then continued to serve in that capacity when redistricting occurred for OH4 Zone 7 from 2016-2019. She served as OH4’s representative to the State Finance & Planning Committee from 2018 -2021. Since her retirement from teaching and supervising student Teachers for Youngstown University she entered the path to advancing in Lions Leadership.
Lion Judy taught high school Health & Physical Education at Orange High School, Akron Springfield and Poland Seminary High School. Her teaching career spanned a 31-year period taking time off to raise her family. She coached just about everything from the junior high basketball to high school golf. DG Judy was often involved with promoting the addition of athletic programs in the Poland Schools for young women. Many of her teams were successful with advancement in State Tournament action. Her most successful team was the women’s golf program that won a state championship in 2008 and three runner-up championships in 2009, 2010 & 2011. Judy is also an active certified PAVO Volleyball linesman and OHSAA Level 1 Volleyball official and has served as rules interpreter though-out the years.
Lion Judy is a Bachelors Graduate of Lions University, Ohio’s RLLI Program for Level I, Level II and Level III and graduate from the Advance Lions Leadership Institute “ALLI” in Chicago of 2019. Lion Judy is a certified Guiding Lion and has served as Guiding Lion to the Struthers Club of Zone 7. She is a recipient of a Melvin Jones Fellow Award, Club President Excellence Award two times, Council of Governors Award 2017, International Presidents Leadership Award 2018 & an Ohio Lions Governors Award in 2019.
Judy has been married to Lion Paul for 46 years. They have three adult children, Theresa, Russell & Tim. Paul & Judy are actively involved in the lives of their 7 grandchildren. Brooke, Baileigh, Breckin, Breslyn & Beckett living in Michigan and Emma & Elliot of Ohio.
