Past District Governor Russ Perkey (District 13K, 1997-98) passed away yesterday after a long battle with cancer. He was a member of the Hebron Club during his governor year. Russ owned Hickle Water Conditioning in Hebron for many years before retiring. He was a proud Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, serving on river patrol boats. Russ died peacefully at home with his wife Laura at his side. Details are not yet available, but Russ was living in Newark and was a member of the Thornville Lions Club at his death.

PDG Fred Boring spoke with Laura Bretz-Perkey recently. PDG Russ will be cremated, and — according to his wishes as a proud Navy man — his ashes will be scattered on the sea at some future date. Laura is in consultation with Russ' daughter about future arrangements for a celebration of Russ' life.

Lions who wish to send condolences should address them to Laura Bretz-Perkey, 142 E. Main Street, Newark, OH 43055. Clubs who wish to honor PDG Russ can make donations for that purpose either to the Lions Clubs International Foundation, the Ohio Lions Foundation, or the Wounded Warrior Project.
