Committee Mission Statement

"We believe that no community in Multiple District 13 should be without the services of a local Lions Club. Therefore, in partnership with the membership, leadership, and the public relations committees, and under the goals and guidelines established by the strategic plan; our specific mission is to create an awareness of the need for extension support by providing the information and training necessary to motivate each Lion to want to help us reach our goal."

Goals And Expectations

Extension Information

Research for the past three decades has shown that there has been no significant increase in membership UNLESS there has been a corresponding increase in new clubs! While we continue each year to bring in many new members into our existing clubs, death and natural attrition has exceeded that number, and our overall membership continues to dwindle!

In a continuing effort to increase overall membership, Lions Clubs International has created some new programs for extension beginning with the CAMPUS CLUB program. The Campus Club has the same obligations and structure as a conventional club and can include along with the students, alumni, staff, and faculty as members. Not only will a Campus Club benefit the institution, but the students themselves will benefit from their volunteering experiences and also enhance their learning experiences.

Another new opportunity for extension is by utilizing the BRANCH CLUB method of expansion. A club branch is a small group of people, usually from another area, who become members of an existing "parent" club, but who hold meetings and conduct service activities at a location that is separate from the parent club. Because branches may be formed with a much smaller number of members, they can be established "early on" where they can operate, grow, and flourish until they reach 20 members at which time they will be automatically be converted to a full conventional club!

The latest new extension program to be announced is the NEW CENTURY LIONS CLUB. The New Century Club is differentiated clearly from a "traditional" type club in many ways including service activities, communications, atmosphere, emblems and insignia! One critical distinction of the New Century Club is member's age at the time of joining; from age of majority up to and including age 35. Another feature of this program is that a branch may be formed of these under age 35 people, if recruiting 20 quality young adults is presently impractical.

If any Lion has any questions, suggestions, or possible locations for expansion, please contact your District Extension chairman who is fully trained and anxious to help.
