Lion Debbie became a member of the Jackson Lions Club in January 2001, when invited to join by her husband, John. Debbie served her club as President in 2004-05, and as a Director in 2005-06. She has had perfect attendance since becoming a Lion and was selected Jackson Lion of the year for 2004-05.

Lion Debbie has been on the District Cabinet since 2003 and served as Chair of Zone 6 for one year. She served three years as Women’s Membership Development Chairperson and one year as convention co-chair. She became Deputy District Governor in 2006 and Vice District Governor in 2007. Lion Debbie was elected District Governor in 2008. For her outstanding service to District 13-J she received the Visionary Award from OLERF, the Council of Governor’s Award of Merit and the International President’s Certificate of Appreciation.

Lion Debbie is a certified Guding Lion and a 2005 Lions Senior Leadership Institute graduate. She has also attended MERL training, many Fall forums; six district conventions, seven state conventions, two USA/Canada Forums, and four International Conventions.
A graduate of Otterbein College with a BS degree in Elementary Education and of Ohio University with a Masters in Education, Lion Debbie is retired from the Wellston City Schools.

Lion Debbie and Lion John have been married for 36 years. They met while students at Otterbein College. Lion John has recently retired after 36 years as a teacher in the Jackson City School System. He is also an OHSAA registered sports official. He officiates volleyball matches, basketball, baseball, and softball games. They both sing in the church choir. Each year she decorates a Christmas tree for a charity event that benefits the American Cancer Society. They have one son, Mark and daughter-in-law, Christy, who live in Cincinnati.

Her theme for 13-J for this year is “Remember the Vision” referring to Helen Keller’s vision of what Lions Clubs International could be for the blind and hearing impaired.
