 Lion Harold was born and raised in Mantua, Ohio. His is a graduate of Crestwood High School and served six years in the United States Army Reserve. He retired from Portage County Water Resources as Superintendent of Collection Systems after 34 ½ years of service. He has since returned to work as a part-time consultant/special projects superintendent for Portage County.

Lion Harold joined the Crestwood Lions Club in 1988. He has held many positions including club president twice and membership chairman four times. He has had perfect attendance since 1988. In charge of numerous fundraisers and committees, he has made the Crestwood Lions Club very well known and has collected donations for thirteen full pilot dog scholarships for Crestwood. Harold was named Lion of the Year nine times and received the President’s Award twice. He has sponsored 23 new members into the Crestwood Lions Club.

He has served on the Cabinet for sixteen years, two of which were as Zone Chairman. As Vice District Governor, he was chairman of the Long-Range Planning Committee and MERL Team. Lion Harold has been the top Lions Fun Calendar salesman for seventeen years. He is now serving in his fourteenth year on the Board of Directors for Pilot Dogs, Inc., and has raised over $850,000 from District 13-D as Sight and Hearing/Pilot Dog State Chairman.

In recognition of this service, he has received numerous awards including the International President’s Award twice, the Governor’s Membership Development Award, three Council of Governor’s Merit Awards, the International Certificate of Service Award, and the International President’s Certificate of Appreciation. Lion Harold was also honored with a Melvin Jones Fellowship as well as the MD-13 Ohio Lions Council Chairman’s Award of Excellence. He has attended many District Conventions, State Conventions, and Fall Conferences.

Harold is a past president and member of Mantua Village Council. He has previously served seven years on the board of the Mantua-Shalersville Fire district, two of which he was President. He currently serves as an honorary member of the Mantua-Shalersville Firefighters Association. Harold was elected to the Crestwood Hall of Fame in 2006 for sports and civic contributions. In September 2006, Harold was chosen to be the Grand Marshall of the Mantua Potato Festival Parade.

Lion Harold and his wife Joyce have been married 42 years. They have a daughter and twin boys. Lion Harold and Joyce are members of the Portage Faith United Methodist Church in Mantua.
