John joined the Bryan Lions Club on Oct. 28, 1964.

He was presidentof the Bryan Lions in 2001-02 and Zone 1 Chairman 2004-06. He was honored with a Melvin Jones Fellowship in 1998 and received a W. R. “Dick” Bryan Fellowship in 2003. He has served on several committees and has chaired the Peace Poster contest and the light bulb and broom sales for the club the last few years. John and Lion Joanne have attended four Lions International Conventions and one USA-Canada Forum. John went on a VOSH mission trip to Guatemala in January, 2007. He has been a director of the NWOLECF (Northwest Ohio Lions Eye Care Foundation) and the Zone 1 representative for Sight First II. John has been active in the Bryan Lions and has participated in a majority of projects and events sponsored by the club. He was 13A VDG in 2007-08.

John grew up in Sherwood, Ohio, graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University and the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Following internship at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati, he joined the U.S. Public Health Service where he spent two years in Whiteriver, Arizona as a family physician on the White Mountain Apache Indian Reservation. In July, 1964, he moved to Bryan, Ohio where he spent the next 40 years in family practice and anesthesiology with the Bryan Medical Group, retiring on December 31, 2003. He also served 30 years as the Williams County Coroner.

John has 3 children, 4 grandchildren and 1 stepson with 2 stepgrandchildren. He was married to his second wife, Joanne in 2004 following the death of his first wife of 38 years in 1997. His current hobbies/activities include traveling, gardening and lawncare, model railroading, board member of Williams County Habitat for Humanity, member of Wesley United Methodist Church where he is currently chairman of the missions committee and was the leader for 3 mission work trips to New Orleans in 2006-07.
