Lion Barbara joined the Bluffton Lions Club in 2002. She became the first Bluffton Club woman President in 2005, assumed the position of Zone 8 Chairman in 2008, 2VDG in 2009 and 1VDG in 2010. She led the SightFirst II drive within the club, board member, club officer, volunteer for projects, delegate to numerous district conventions, state conventions, USA Canada forum, recently presented the Melvin Jones Fellow Award and currently the club’s Newsletter Editor. She received the Council Chairman’s Award of Excellence in 2010 and was recognized for membership growth during her reign as club President.

Her service to humanity began as a registered nurse graduating from Lima Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, St. Joseph’s College with a BS in Professional Arts, and the University of Dayton with a MS in Education. She has worked at Bluffton Community Hospital as Director of Nursing Services and at Blanchard Valley in Findlay as Director of Risk Management and Director of Quality Improvement when both hospitals merged. She is currently employed part-time as a Coding Analyst at Bluffton Hospital. She has coordinated medical missions throughout the world with optometrists providing free eye care to the underserved. Most missions have been with VOSH-Ohio into Central America, Mexico, South America, Africa, Eastern Europe, and Haiti.

She has been a church organist since her teen years and has been active in her church serving on search committees, mission committees and others. She presently directs the choir at her church and for the Ohio Good Sam organization. She serves on the Advisory Board of Richland Manor Nursing Facility.

She is married to Arliss, also a Melvin Jones Fellow, they have four children and seven grandchildren.

They both received the 2010 prestigious Jefferson Award recognizing their volunteer service to humanity.
