Ohio Lions All State Band
History
The Ohio Lions All State Band was started in 1984 and the Ohio State Fair
Youth Band was selected as the band to represent Ohio Lions. The band had
110 students from all over the state of Ohio. In 1985, the band was selected
from taped auditions from High School Music students from all over Ohio and
had 110 members. Since 1985 the band has been selected from Ohio High
School students.
Performances center around the band's appearance at the Lions Clubs International Convention, held in major cities throughout the world during late June or early July. Additional concerts and appearances are scheduled during our band camp and at the request of Ohio Lions. The annual tour generally lasts 5 to 7 days. Major cities where the band has performed include Boston, Dallas, New Orleans, Brisbane, Miami, Phoenix, San Francisco, St. Louis, Indianapolis and Denver.

Who is in the Band?
Band members from Ohio High Schools, grades 9 through 12, are eligible to audition for the Lions Band. The band includes traditional woodwind, brass and percussion instruments. It is not an honors band, and includes a broad range of performance levels.
How do students become members of the Band?
Band members are selected through applications and recommendations from High School Band teachers. In the event of excess instrumentation, auditions tapes demonstrating tone quality, range and ability will be required.
How do I get more information?
Around November, Lions and Lioness Clubs throughout Ohio will receive applications with information about the Ohio Lions All State Band and the upcoming trip. It contains audition information, application forms, and information about the current year's tour.
When/Where does the band rehearse?
Band camp takes place at a high school or church camp near central Ohio the weekend before the trip. Specific details and rehearsal dates are sent to the students in a packet of information from the director along with music and forms that need to be completed and returned before the trip.
What does the tour fee include?
The tour fee includes all transportation, meals, lodging, tours and admissions. Band members are provided a video tape, souvenir pin, and band shirt (top of uniform). Meals are also provided during the band camp. The total cost varies according to the destination and length of the tour.
How do band members pay for the tour?
Students are responsible for paying half of their tour fee. They may approach local Lions Clubs, band boosters, service clubs, and other community organizations for financial assistance. However, funds not raised through these efforts must be paid by the individual band members. Full payment must be received at least one month prior to departure.
How do the Lions Clubs of Ohio support the Band?
Lions Clubs may choose to donate money toward the trip fees of individual band members and/or to donate money to the band to help reduce the cost of the trip for all students.
